Commit Impact: Tommy Tofi

Oregon picks up their second flip of the week – also from Cal – with the addition of Tommy Tofi. Tofi visited at the same time as Koloi Keli and was thought for a long time to be an Oregon lean prior to his Cal commitment. But the Ducks continued to pursue the elite offensive lineman and their relentlessness paid off with this commitment.

Tofu is the 12th known commitment to the 2026 class and has will have the opportunity to compete at all positions along the offensive line. I still feel like his best fit is on the interior, but so did a lot of people when talking about Penei Sewell. Let’s see how he looks when he gets to campus next year and then how he projects.

COMMIT IMPACT:

Depending on which service you look at Tofi is a three or a four star. Rivals has him as the No. 152 overall prospect in the nation while 247 has him pegged at No. 87. The outlier here is On3 who has him listed as a three star and not nationally rated.

This is a bigger impact commit because this is a player that the Ducks have been targeting for quite some time. It was thought for a while that Oregon was the team to beat and it was a little bit bewildering when he picked Cal.

The Bears have Nick Rolovich on staff and he does a tremendous job recruiting players of Polynesian descent as well as players from the state of Hawaii. Tofi’s older brother plays for Cal and I know that had an impact on him. But Oregon has offered his younger brother and the long term plan given for him is better in Oregon and there is a much better path to some of his other (team type) goals in Eugene. This one should move the needle a little bit more

POSITION IMPACT:

This is the second offensive line commit in this class but the Ducks are going to add more. Right now it looks like the staff will take at least four offensive linemen in this class.

The names to watch right now are no surprise:

Immanuel Iheanacho is the top tackle on the board for the Ducks and they are all in on getting the big man from Maryland to commit. While I do not expect it this week, it would not be surprising if he moved up his commitment date to July.

Kelvin Obot Committed to Utah yesterday. The Ducks will keep communicating, but given what I heard about NIL, I don't think this one is going to happen. I mentioned some additional names to watch today in the War Room

COMMITMENT THOUGHTS:

This commitment feels like a big win on multiple fronts for Oregon. First, it underscores the staff’s ability to stay engaged and keep lines of communication open even after a prospect commits elsewhere — a theme we’ve seen with several high-level targets this cycle. Tofi had been widely considered an Oregon lean early, and when he chose Cal, it caught a lot of people by surprise. Instead of backing off, Oregon doubled down. That kind of persistence is exactly what has helped them close on flips like this.

It’s also worth noting how strategic this is in terms of roster construction. Tofi’s versatility means he can potentially play anywhere along the line, though I personally believe he projects best inside. That flexibility allows A'lique Terry and the offensive staff to get creative and continue building depth, especially as the Ducks transition into the Big Ten and emphasize trench physicality even more.

From a broader perspective, flipping a player away from a former conference peer — and doing so twice in the same week from the same school — sends a strong signal. It’s not just about adding a talented body; it’s about reinforcing Oregon’s national brand and recruiting reach, especially in California and among Polynesian players.

Another layer to this is the family dynamic. Tofi’s older brother at Cal undoubtedly made that initial decision more emotional and complex. But Oregon’s ability to outline a plan not just for Tommy but potentially for his younger brother as well highlights the program’s focus on long-term family ties and cultural fit. That resonates deeply with many Polynesian families and could continue to pay dividends in future cycles.

Lastly, this commitment should energize the offensive line group in this class and create momentum heading into the summer. With Iheanacho still on the board, having a player of Tofi’s caliber on board can only help build peer-to-peer recruiting energy.

This was a big swing — and Oregon connected.
